EDITORIAL OVERVIEW

Welcome to Surfline.com -- the most comprehensive surf-related web site on the Internet. We're not talking about the kind of "surfing" done by Uncle Fester-looking cyberheads; we're talking about the kind done by real surfers -- those of us who do it in the ocean, on wind-borne waves, and who frequently suffer from such unsightly ailments as saltwater sinus drain, bone-clogged ear canals, sandpaper-like eyeball pimples and dermatological sun damage of the highest order.

We were hesitant to use a superlative such as "most comprehensive" in that first sentence up yonder, but we're confident that it's true. Spend a few hours browsing around Surfline.com and we guarantee you won't even come close to getting to the end of every cul-de-sac on the site. We have compiled close to half a million words and 1,500 images and video clips. We have also spent much time and energy trying to organize that content in a way that's at once utilitarian and stylish, intuitive and surprising, simple and complex. Our goal is simple: we want to pin you to your chair at the same time that we inspire you to get out of it. And once you decide to get wet, we want to help you figure out where to go, when to go, how to get there and what to ride.

For the record (and for those of you think that a "navigation bar" is where the skipper of the Exxon Valdez went to get hammered), Surfline.com consists of the following sections:

1. CAMS & REPORTS. Surfline.com offers the world's most reliable surf cam and report network that gives you a precise reading on what the waves are doing at nearly 100 surf spots around the globe. Each page features detailed tide charts, wind data, water temperatures and more -- whatever it takes to describe exactly what the surf and conditions are like right now.

2. FORECASTS. Surfline's Premium Forecasts provide a summary of exactly what the surf will be doing up to five days from now at every major surf region in the world. And, for those who would like to do a bit of forecasting on their own, or just get more details, we have LOLA, the world's only computer-generated, automated surf forecasting tool. LOLA can forecast waves right down the street, or it can predict the surf at top spots around the globe - breaks like Tavarua, Tahiti and Jeffrey's Bay.

3. SURFOLOGY. Everything you ever wanted to know about surfing but were afraid to ask. Includes: The Surfer's Bill of Rights and Lefts, Surfline's painstakingly complied etiquette guide; Richard Schmidt's Learn to Surf feature, that shows even the most athletically challenged how to get up and ride; Who Knows, where various experts answer readers' questions; Forecasting and Meteorology, which gives readers a basic understanding of where waves come from; and the Surfline Forums, a hotbed of community activity.

4. TRAVEL. For anyone thinking of embarking on a surfari, anywhere. This section features surf maps for the entire United States (including Hawaii, Texas and, yes, the Great Lakes), independent guides to most of the major surf resorts worldwide and travel tales from professional journalists and amateur wanderers alike.

5. VIDEO & PHOTOS. Where we offer a range of clips from most of the sport's top makers of videos, plus a photo gallery where you can check out our featured photos and browse, upload and order prints. If you don't see something that gets you stoked here, you must be very difficult to please and should probably seek counseling immediately.

6. GEAR. Need a new board or wetsuit? Then look no further -- Surfline's Wetsuit Buyer's and Surfboard Buyer's Guides will show you all the latest models, and even tell you where to buy.

7. STORE. The Surfline commerce staff selects the best surf products on the market, and presents them for sale in a convenient, safe online store.

CORPORATE OVERVIEW

Surfline is the leading provider of surf report, forecast and editorial content to consumers, businesses and government agencies worldwide. Headquartered in Huntington Beach, California, Surfline delivers timely, accurate and comprehensive data on a daily basis via phone, fax, wireless web and the Internet. The company's world-renowned website, Surfline.com, is visited by over 75,000 unique people per day and over 1,000,000 per month - the largest and most loyal audience of surf and beach enthusiasts in the world. Since 1985, Surfline has merged premier surf report, forecast and editorial talent with industry-leading technology to produce "must-have" content of unparalleled quality aimed at active participants in the sports of surfing, windsurfing, bodysurfing and bodyboarding. Surfline acquired WATER magazine in 2007, a high-quality, photo-rich surf magazine.

Surfline is led by pre-eminent surf forecaster Sean Collins, who serves as chief forecaster and president of Surfline. The self-taught Collins was the first person to forecast swells accurately from the southern hemisphere on a regular basis in the late '70s and early 80's. He pioneered and created the first ongoing surf forecast available to the surfing public via Surfline and 976-SURF in 1985. Over the past 20 years, he has developed a sophisticated, proprietary system of wave forecasting and is recognized as the clear leader in the field. Surfer Magazine named Sean one of the "25 Most Influential Surfers of the Century" in the summer of 1999.

Surfline merged with Swell.com during the spring of 2000, which allowed the combined company to vastly grow its online surfcam network, editorial content, community offerings, and the Swell.com online store. In the spring of 2001 it was decided that the company would best operate as two separate entities with Surfline taking control of all media content products.

In 2001, Surfline also launched LOLA, a revolutionary global surf-forecasting tool that enables users to create their own forecasts. More than a year in the making, LOLA incorporates the most advanced wave modeling software available, which has been combined with proprietary knowledge gained from over 30 years of worldwide surf forecasting experience. LOLA includes an in-depth tutorial and has proven to be a valuable tool and learning experience for seasoned veterans as well as new entries to the sport.
